MyPass.org is a free online tool to help you generate safe passwords and remember them forever.
I don't have any problem with my passwords. I remember them and they are safe!
Really? Chances are, if your remember your passwords, they are not safe. Check to determine whether your passwords meet all five of these requirements:
- They contain more than 10 characters
- They contain lower case AND upper case letters AS WELL AS numbers
- They don't contain any names or words
- They are not older than a year
- They are not used for other sites or services
If your passwords do not meet all five requirements then your personal information, e-mails, online shopping accounts and financial data are in potential danger.
Who would want to guess my passwords?
Most likely nobody who knows you. Millions of people are subject to online theft every year and 95% of the cases are committed by total strangers.
Also, they don't waste time trying to "guess" your passwords; online criminals use cunning methods and technologies to steal passwords in minutes. Brute force and dictionary attacks, trojans and key logging software are just to name a few.
But.. my browser remembers my passwords for me
Although convenient, this is quite possibly the worst way to store your passwords.
Try this: If you're using Firefox, click on "Tools" -> "Options" and then go to the "Security" tab. Click on "Saved Passwords" and then "Show Passwords". It will show you your username and password for every site or service you've ever registered to! Anybody with access to your computer (either directly or remotely) can steal your life away!
Even if you set a "Master Password" you're still in danger and your saved passwords can be easily wiped away (after formatting your system for example).
So why should I trust YOU with my passwords?
You shouldn't. Unlike other "password management" software we don't store anything about you or your passwords. We merely provide you with a mechanism which generates A WAY by which you can always find your passwords.
Put simply: Even if someone were to hack into our servers, take apart our encryption system and see everything you've ever done on our site, they still wouldn't know ANYTHING about you and your passwords.
Try it out, you'll understand why.
